Grants

Empowering Local People to Improve Their Lives

For over 20 years, United Way Glenelg has been providing grants, to our community partners to empower local people to improve their lives. As of 2020, over 1 million dollars has been invested into our community.

Community Fund– Monies for the Community Fund come from Workplace Giving campaigns, individual donations and donations from companies throughout the Glenelg Shire community.

Lewis Court Fund – The legacy of Lewis Court Home for the Aged continues with United Way Glenelg selected as custodians of the division of funds from the sale of the Lewis Court facility in 2013. Following the wishes of the Lewis Court Board, the capital amount is preserved for future generations with UWG investing the money safely and responsibly with the assistance of Allwood & Ryan. Each year the original amount plus CPI is reinvested with the amount remaining available to community groups working on projects to benefit older people.

 If your organisation would like more information on how it can support the work of United Way Glenelg through our Workplace Giving program please contact Nicole Carr on 0410 513 305

Any Community Partner registered with United Way Glenelg who is delivering projects or programs within the Glenelg Shire community may apply. Our aim is to support small to medium organisations who are passionate about creating positive change that directly and clearly benefit local residents.

Applicants will need to clearly demonstrate how their project aligns to our building blocks as set out below.

HEALTH – improving people’s health

EDUCATION – helping children and youth achieve their potential

One-time funding for 3 Community Partners

Anticipated minimum funding of $8,000

Shark Pitch aims to support 3 organisations who will “pitch” their idea to a live audience on Wednesday 31 August 2021 for financial and in-kind support for their program.

Expressions of interest will be sought from grass-root community organisations who are working on one of the following priority areas facing people living in the Glenelg Shire community;

  • HEALTH – improving people’s health
  • EDUCATION – helping children and youth achieve their potential
  • INCOME STABILITY – promoting financial stability and independence

We are currently seeking 3 community organisations to participate in this event.

An emcee (MC) engages with the audience encouraging them to pledge funds, with the aim of raising a minimum of $8,000 per organisation.

United Way Glenelg together with AWA Alliance Bank will provide the following;

Pitch coaching: To Support each “pitcher” to articulate their request to better secure funding for their project.

Individual support: After the pitch coaching we continue to work with you to hone your pitch and build your confidence to tell your story.

Guaranteed and matched funding: United Way Glenelg and its partner AWA Alliance Bank expect to provide guaranteed funding of at least $8,000 per participating organisation to match pledges made by audience members at the event. This means every dollar raised for the organisation on the night up to $8,000 will be matched.

Marketing video: Powerhouse Productions will work with your organisation to develop a one minute video of your organisations work to share with your networks.

Shark Pitch is an excellent opportunity to connect donors and community organisations in an innovative way. It allows people wanting to give back, whether financially, in time or with services and products to link organisations already established but needing support. It also allows community groups to up skill their staff and/or volunteers with public presentations, pitching and marketing themselves.

The event: You will have the opportunity to participate in an event that will allow you to connect directly with a roomful of potential donors! You simply show up on the night and make your pitch.

If you are interested in participating in the Shark Pitch event you must complete our expression of interest form by Wednesday 30 June 2021.

If offered the opportunity to participate in SHARK PITCH you will need to identify who will pitch on behalf of your community Organisation and provide their bio and photo. This individual will be expected to participate in the pitch coaching session with a colleague (could be a board member or another staff member). You will also need to identify an Advocate who can attend the event, is willing to provide a one-minute testimonial about the work of your community organisation and kick off the donations with a pledge of at least $150.

Still not sure what the Shark Pitch experience is like? Watch the video of our 2019 event:
