School Resilience Fund

Strengthening school communities by supporting students in need.

Removing barriers so every student can learn, belong, and thrive

The School Resilience Fund, a partnership between United Way Glenelg and Beyond Bank, provides discretionary financial support to schools across the Glenelg Shire to help students facing hardship. The fund is designed to reduce barriers to education and wellbeing, ensuring every child has the opportunity to participate fully in school life.

All schools within the Glenelg Shire public and private, primary and secondary are eligible to apply. Schools can request funding annually, with allocations made in January based on student numbers, demonstrated need, and the total pool of available funds. Each school has flexibility in how they distribute support, helping them respond quickly and effectively to the needs of their students.

The fund can be used to assist with a wide range of needs, including emergencies such as illness, family crisis, transport, doctors’ fees, medication, or groceries, as well as educational participation costs like essential school supplies, camp fees, or special clothing not covered by state programs. Schools are encouraged to spread the impact by supporting multiple students, with a suggested guideline of around $50 per student.

To ensure transparency and capture trends in student needs, schools complete a simple acquittal form each term. Privacy is respected, and student names are not required. Any unused funds can be rolled over to the following year, allowing schools to respond to future challenges.

The School Resilience Fund plays a vital role in supporting local students and families through difficult times, helping to build stronger, more resilient school communities across the Glenelg Shire.
